What is Naprapathic Medicine? With Dr. Nuzzo
Some Naprapathic Manual Medicine “Fast Facts”
- Naprapathic and Chiropractic Medicine were started at the same time (the early 1900’s). The founders, Oakley Smith and D.D. Palmer worked together.
- Naprapathic treatment employs hands-on manual medicine, nutritional counseling, and a wide variety of therapeutic modalities.
- Naprapaths are connective tissue specialists. Naprapathy focuses on conditions caused by contracted, injured, spasmed, bruised, and/or otherwise affected myofascial and connective tissue.
- There are currently less than 50 licensed Naprapaths serving 300,000 insured potential clients in New Mexico alone, and 200 licensed Naprapaths nationwide.
What Do Naprapathic Doctors Do?
Doctors of Naprapathic Medicine often use a three-fold strategy in the Naprapathic treatment of connective tissue disorders.
Naprapathic Manual Medicine: Involves hands-on (gentle) connective tissue manipulation to the spine, joints and articulations of the body.
Nutritional Counseling: Recommendations for holistic dietary changes, food supplementation (as through the use of herbs, vitamins and minerals) that assist the body in achieving optimal health.
Therapeutic Modalities: The use of the effective properties of physical measures of heat, cold, light, water, radiant energy, electricity, sound, air and assistive devices for the purpose of preventing, correcting or alleviating a physical disability. Modalities may include ultrasound, electric stimulation and/or photobiostimulation (also known as low-level laser or cold laser therapy).
Growing Industry
Integrative, holistic and complementary manual medicine and the treatment of fascia and connective tissue is a growing trend in the US, gaining more and more momentum daily.
It is now being incorporated into mainstream medical facilities and taught at major universities. Naprapathy currently represents an under-served niche market.
